Santa Caterina Market Rehabilitation Project

Rehabilitation of a public market, which dates from 1848. The project included various functions − the Market, social housing for old people, the conservation of the foundations of Santa Caterina church (which collapsed in 1243), a public plaza, parking and waste disposal facilities. Fifteen streets meet in the market square. Inside, three wooden vaults float due to a complex suspended structure system resembling a fish, which is seen in the exterior, while 325,000 hexagonal tiles in 67 colors conform a new urban landscape, representing the contents of the building.
